Hey Blues Fans! I am happy to report that the 2 nd Annual Jak
Payne Waterfront Blues Festival was a success!
The Palacios Brothers kicked off the festival at noon,
followed by Rich Lockhart, Mantle Jennings, John Elijah, the
John Cortez Band, Goldie Pipes, the FBI Blues Band, and
finally, the headliner, Reno Perez. We had a great turnout,
considering the extreme temperatures. With lots of shade
and a steady breeze, the intense heat of the afternoon wasn’t
a big issue. The evening concluded with a pro jam, with our
very own Director of Public Relations of the TCBBS, Otis
Terrell at the helm.
From the beginning, we wanted to put blues bands in a
venue they had never played before and fill it with blues fans.
Dorado’s Bar and Grill turned out to be the perfect venue for
the event as it has plenty of room, great food, a full bar, and
free parking. The owner later told me it was a record day in
sales, proving that the blues is indeed alive in the Coastal
Bend!
We are picking up more individual, band, venue, and
business memberships along the way and soon we will have
their logos and events posted on the website, along with the
monthly jams at member venues starting soon!
We are also in the process of creating individual and band ID
membership cards which will be coming out soon. Continued
donations and blues fan support are critical to keep the
TCBBS running, and we hope to have a good following at
each member venue when we hold events.
There has been a change in board membership as our
Secretary, Kimberly Waitrek, decided to step down to pursue
other interests. Kimberly will be missed as she was
instrumental in getting our Blues Society off the ground
using her considerable expertise as a paralegal to wade
through the mountain of paperwork required. Celeste
Trevino, the Managing Director of the Jak Payne Scholarship
Fund has agreed to fill the open position until further notice.
Thank you for your continued support!
