To our members and blues fans,
I have a lot to fill you all in on since our last newsletter.
We would like to welcome the Sugar Shack (Rockport), The Big Easy Saloon (Rockport) as well as Smokey’s (Corpus Christi) to our Blues Society as official venue sponsors!
TKO Blues Featuring Karen Lawrence has joined as a member band. Karen Lawrence and Tony Saracene are currently playing at the Sugar Shack in Rockport Texas every Saturday from 5-8 pm as a duo, TKO Blues. Karen has many albums in her discography and Tony is a well known guitarist that was the guitar player for John Lee Hooker among many other accomplishments.
We also have had the band, The East and the Crow, join as members as well and they performed at our 2nd Annual Autism Awareness Festival recently. You can keep up with their schedule on their social media pages.
We have also had more fans join under general memberships and they are all welcome to our blues family.
Another announcement is that Scott Graham, a TCBBS member that also has 2 bands as members of the TCBBS, is officially the new Treasurer on our Board of Directors, and we welcome him to the board as he has great skillset, and Scott is very active with the Blues Society live events.
Speaking of which, we will be hosting an event in Bayside, Texas on May 24th, called “Scott Graham’s Bayside Blues Festival”. It is a fundraiser for the Volunteer Fire Department where Scott lives. It will be held at Driscoll Rooke Covenant Park, which is on the waterfront in Bayside. The line up and times are still being worked out, but we are looking forward to a great day of blues in that small coastal town!
Again, a reminder that the 3rd annual Jak Payne Waterfront Blues Festival will be on June 28th at Doarado’s at Conn Brown Harbor in Aransas Pass again this year. The venue is doing some remodeling with a goal of having a second permanent stage ready with shade over the entire right side of the property by then. We are looking forward to returning there to host that event and raise money for the Jak Payne Scholarship Fund.
Also, our BIG Poker Run was a success and we had live music at every stop (5) and managed to give away best and worst hand as well as a 50/50 raffle and raffled off a new guitar as well. If you didn’t make it this year, I promise you will want to go next time around!
We also just had the 2nd Annual Autism Awareness Festival with our partners for the event, the Rialto Theater. The event raised money for this years recipient, AutismSpeaks.Org. Our M/C was none other than our own Autism Laision, Jonathan Carmony, who did an excellent job performing and introducing all the other acts. All technical requirements to pull off that festival were in the capable hands of Scott Graham and all of us at the TCBBS appreciate his dedication.
Thanks again for all your support of the Blues in the Texas Coastal Bend. 😊
